It’s the middle of winter. Icicles glitter from the roofs, white covers the ground. Nothing is further away than the thought of patio furniture. At least that’s what you may think if you’re from the “warm” south – southern Ontario that is.
I had the pleasure of spending a few days in Quebec over the holidays. About an hour from Montreal, you’ll find the Eastern Townships with Lake Magog, Mount Orford and other spectacular views. A beautiful area with lots of activities; skiing, snowshoeing, snowtubeing, skating, just to Continue reading
Winter will soon be here. Christmas decorations are popping up on every corner. If you have not already put your patio furniture away, you may want to do that soon. Unless you intend to use it in the winter too, of course. Either way, here are a couple of tips on how to maintain and store your outdoor furniture.
What can I do to keep my furniture nice and clean?
Cleaning your patio set goes a long way. Before you put it away in your garage or shed, make sure Continue reading
Turning an outdoor space into one that entices you and your guests as soon as the door opens is a renovation dream for most people. Building a good deck can enhance the beauty and function of your landscape, and blend with the outdoor living space to create the perfect area for entertaining, family activities and privacy.
So want to spruce up your backyard with a striking deck? Building your Continue reading
So what does Toronto, rattan furniture and celebrities have in common?
After doing a bit of research on the topic, I have come up with a few interesting insights, that are not too shocking, I’ll admit, but nevertheless, some sexy and quite a bit funny as well.
First of all, there is the ultimate Continue reading
This Toronto rooftop was completed by Terra Firma Design. The wicker sectional shows beveled armrests in a clean modern style, which is re-enforced with off white fabric on the cushions. The coffee table can also be used as ottoman. A great feature allowing you to put your feet up after a hard work day. Custom seating is added, putting the Continue reading
The sectional outdoor sofa has achieved the significance of a status symbol in North America. It is large, offers plenty of seating, the very thing that only a huge backyard or patio can accommodate. Or in other words, whoever has a large enough property to host one of these enormous pieces of furniture, certainly must be wealthy, at least if they live in a city with high home prices. Once we leave the city boundaries, large homes become more prevalent and with them, the new “American Dream”-product, the outdoor sectional.
Here are the latest trends for this kind of garden furniture. Continue reading
What’s your dream backyard? Is it a spectacular paradise where you can escape the daily hustle to relax and tune out from the world in? Or are you a social butterfly with friends and family constantly flocking in and out and you need something a little more exciting to entertain and cater for them? Maybe you are a growing family and need something bigger so the children don’t go too stir crazy cooped up inside – whatever it is, having a backyard that adapts to your needs and lifestyle is essential.
Take a seat in your backyard, are you comfortable? If not then it’s probably because you never got around to Continue reading
It’s a cool fall day in Toronto. Restaurant patios are empty, not many takers for sitting out in the chilly breeze that is coming up from the lake. Is it just positive thinking that is keeping the outdoor furniture on the patio in the Distillery District?
Most places have wrapped up patio season and cleared away their bistro tables, outdoor lounges or whatever they use to host their guests. Some have installed heaters to prolong the season a little, and others just keep their furniture out, so the Continue reading
Toronto and outdoor furniture – a love story made in heaven….
Why is it that we love spending time outside so much? Simply because we are Canadians and that’s who we are, outdoor people?
Or is it because our winters really suck and we can’t wait to put on some flip-flops and sit on our patio with a cool beer as soon as the snow has melted up on Blue Mountain?
I am not trying to give an answer here. All I know is, we love our summer and we love to spend it in our garden or on our deck, preferably on some decent patio furniture.
The first photo shows us a covered patio in a Toronto garden with a white wicker dining table and armchair, as well as 2 wood and steel folding chairs in European bistro style. Brendan O’Brien Landscapes combines the elegant rattan look with the rough wooden dining chairs. White wicker has Continue reading
